How entry and addenda counts are calculated

Counts include Entry Detail Records and their Addenda Records according to the scope of each batch and the complete file.

Entry hash

The hash uses the eight-digit routing prefix from entries, summed and truncated to the required ten-digit control field.

Each Batch Control reconciles its batch. The File Control aggregates batch count, block count, entry and addenda count, hash, debit total, and credit total across the file.

Questions about NACHA control values

Is the entry hash a security hash?

No. It is a truncated arithmetic sum used as a control, not a cryptographic integrity guarantee.

Do addenda affect the entry count?

Yes. NACHA control fields count entries and addenda together where specified.

Why does padding affect block count?

A file is padded so its physical record count is a multiple of ten, and the block count reports those ten-record blocks.
